The BBQ is great! The atmosphere is awesome! Unfortunately, the service has gone downhill and the sides have become mediocre.
The counter staff used to slice, cut, chop, and serve out the food in a hurry (like a well oiled TX BBQ production). Last night we waited no less than 20 mins, and when we got to the sides, they were literally scrapping the Mac and cheese off the side of the foil tray. And the cream corn was a handful of kernels at the bottom of melted butter (she had to fish around with the spoon to find enough to put in my sons bowl). When I inquired as to whether more sides were coming out, I got a shoulder shrug and an "I don't think so." After I pressed the issue, they inquired then cam back with a quick "no." She then stood there as to say "that's all you get....what do you want?" After all this, my wife then asked for a bun, and they wanted 1.50 for it.
Its almost as if they know they're good, and they're always busy, so "why bother with the small stuff?"
Coolest place ever! René was wonderful. The gift shop was closed, however he opened it up for me. Bought some sweet treasures! Great food, great staff. I always make it a point to stop by when traveling through there. This time I altered my route. So glad I did.
Its a shame, b/c we used to take all our out of town guests there for the authentic BBQ experience. Now, its no longer worth the long haul to get there.
I Have read some of the reviews that weren't very positive, and had reservations on going. But the fact is always-on a quest to find good barbecue. There's lots of barbecue in Texas but not all barbecue is good. We arrive to between lunch and dinner which seemed to be the perfect time there was no crowd at all, and the fact it was on a Wednesday might contribute a little bit to that. We have the meal for 2 which actually said 3 of us myself, my wife and son. I had just a little left over for my lunch the next day. We chose lean brisket Chicken and sausage as our meats and then our sides were green beans mashed potatoes Mac and cheese and coleslaw. We were not disappointed! It was all very good. We have finally found a place That is fairly close to us With good barbecue. The décor is rustic and man cave like. We loved it. We had no problems like other people exclaimed. It was just a good afternoon barbecue lunch and I'd go and do it again and again and again. I can't say anything to the naysayers that wrote negative comments, I wasn't there with them on that day they had their episode. But I'll say again that our meal today was very good.
Went there at 9pm, an hour before they close. The brisket was so good, the meat was soft and came apart very easily. Same thing for the ribs. The sides weren't really a big deal. With how late we arrived the cheesy potatoes and mac and cheese were cold. The corn was hot and it was my favorite side. The place looks like a fun family environment to eat at before closing time lol. Our 2 year old had fun getting on the motorcycle there. We went on bike night and a man was so awesome he let our son sit on his Harley
First and last time eating here. Staff looked like they did not want to be here. All the side items were old, crusted over and room temperature at best. Baked potato was cold. The baby back ribs were dry. Chopped brisket was greasy and smothered in sauce. The sausage was ok. In short big waste of time and money.
